Inspired by the furniture of the architects Marcel Breuer, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Mart Stam, as well as by the possibilities of tubular steel as a material, Thonet began developing a number of in-house designs starting in the 1920s – mainly side furniture that was largely published in the 1930/31 catalog. The shelf B 22 is one of those pieces.
